Alkali Refined Poppy Oil 250ml

£16.40

Poppy Oil entered the artist’s toolkit later than linseed and walnut oils and is typically used as a binder for pale colours, where the natural warmth of linseed oil is undesirable. It produces a matte finish and dries very slowly, so it’s not recommended for use with slow-drying pigments or in underpaintings. Paint films made with poppy oil are softer and less durable than those made with linseed oil, due to its lower linolenic acid content—the component responsible for both the strength and the yellowing tendency of drying oils.
